We get to find out what happens next

“A good life is one hero journey after another. Over and over again, you are called to the realm of adventure, you are called to new horizons.”

— Joseph Campbell

___________

Her body was dying. The cancer had taken most of it, she was skin and bones. A living skeleton – well, only just living.

But her eyes.

Bright blue, huge and deep, she looked at me and said, “I get to find out what happens next!”.

Like someone about to finish a lifelong jigsaw puzzle, she was excited and full of wonder … triumphant even.

She got to find out what happens next.

And so do we … as our journey unfolds. There’s no skipping forward and peeking. That would ruin the story – wouldn’t it?

There’s going to be many twists and turns. The unexpected and the unwelcome will come. Despite our hopes and plans, desires and dreams, we’ll never be totally sure what will happen; nor will we be able to control all we think we can.

We can certainly fall into a rut of thinking we know, that we are in total control, but we never do. We never are. This story is being told as we live it, and why not anticipate it as such?

Like with any great story, you can be fascinated, even excited, by what’s coming next – or you can resist and fear it.

Why not welcome life, as it comes to you?

Why not greet it, fully awake, as it unfolds in front of you?

This life can be the greatest adventure, one in which we get to find out what happens next. I think that’s a real privilege.

Have a great year!

Go well,

Arjuna
