The obstacle is the way

“That which hinders your task… is your task.”

— Sanford Meisner, American actor and teacher

The true reason for all of our lives does not lie in the things we do – although I hope you do many, many great things.

The challenges and obstacles of life aren't there to annoy you, nor are they really there to show you the practical lessons of “What do I do?”. They are there to give you something far greater.

The highest purpose for your existence and the unwelcome events in life is to show you how to see through fear, doubt and resistance so clearly you live absolutely and utterly unaffected by them.

All of your challenges are so you can be free of fear and doubt: so you can see these feelings, and not be swayed by them. And whoever or whatever is in charge of the bigger picture of your life will throw everything it can at you so you can completely realise the empty uselessness of fear.

It’s never really about what you do, but how you do it.

As the Stoic author Ryan Halliday once wrote, “The obstacle is the way.”

Fear, doubt, struggle, procrastination… overcoming these is your task. Then your conquering of fear means you become a light and a guide for everyone else.
