How to have no ordinary moments

There is only one minute in which you are alive, this minute, here and now.

The only way to live is by accepting each minute as an unrepeatable miracle.  Which is exactly what it is — a miracle and unrepeatable.

It’s my son’s first birthday today. Of course, he has no idea, he’s happy running around chewing stuff, emptying boxes, falling on his face.

COVID has meant most of my work has been cancelled. But, a huge plus – maybe you could say it worked out perfectly – I’ve been around a lot for him these last 12 months.

If I had the choice to redo it, I wouldn’t choose the money.

Both of my kids are wonderful reminders to be present and fresh in that presence. Someone once said to me that “When you get present, the small things become the big things” … and that’s so profoundly true.

We spend so much of our time frustrated, impatient, unhappy with now. We're waiting for something better to come along, something different.

But why wait?

Instead of waiting for the big things to come along, the things that we think will really make us happy, get present.

Then the small things – the everyday moments – can come alive, can fill up your day.

When I started this inner journey, I did so because I wanted an end to worry, fear, suffering. But I think most importantly, I wanted an end to boredom, to tediousness, to impatience.

I’ve lost all of these things.

In their place is fulfillment, contentment, and the ability not only to let now be enough, but to let it be everything.

So many people believe suffering is an inevitable, even necessary part, of being human.

But what if it is not?

What if suffering is an unconscious habit that we believe in and repeat, without fully realising what we’re doing?

Wouldn’t that be cool?

How do you experience freedom from suffering?

You have to:

a). make peace a priority

b). let now be enough

c). stay curious in this experience of now

It is this simple – and though it needs to be reapplied to really sink in, it’s all you need to do.

Simple huh?

The reward is that the power of our full attention means there are no ordinary moments.

All simply because we stopped waiting and actually showed up to life, without expectations, just as it is.

Give it a shot, there’s nothing to lose, me thinks, except all the things you don’t want.

Go well!
