Gratitude: Powerful, yet easy to take for granted

"Beauty is not hard to find but it is easy to overlook."

— Tim Ferriss

It seems every single day we get to go again.

We start afresh, and some things we want to grow in our gardens have to be consistently supported and nurtured.

Gratitude is one of these things. Ironically, it's so easy to take for granted.

Ironic? Because that's what gratitude does – it prevents you from forgetting the good in your life.

Gratitude is so powerful because it runs completely counter to the part of our brains that focuses on what’s wrong, missing and lacking. And that is so easy to get stuck in a death loop of blah, anxiety, depression, overwhelm, stress and frustration with no way out of.

I was talking to a bunch of people who wanted to know how to live better lives, and you could see their eyes rolling when I mentioned that they should practice more gratitude.

This “oh yeah, yeah, heard that so many times, got it” attitude actually means you don’t got it. It means you need gratitude even more.

Together with the focus on what’s wrong, we constantly look for the next thing, the better way, the more complicated thing to do.

Yet living a life of wow is about the simplest of things. Presence, being, acceptance, courage, and appreciation and gratitude.

It’s not rocket science, but in a way it is because we so want something more, different, better … and the beauty and truth of this, here, now is so much over-looked in the search for the next thing.

But consistently nurtured, gratitude becomes you. And what a fine things that is:

Gratitude brings you alive because it highlights the goodness of what is already here. Not when, but now.

When you focus on what you don’t want, that’s what you get more of.

When you focus on what you have and what you love, that’s what you get more of.

Simple huh? If you want a life of wow … practice gratitude.

It’s why it’s an integral part of the Ascension Attitudes that I practice and teach (course coming 2-4 July).

So make that your homework for this week.

Do gratitude every single day.

Overcome the momentum of the negative part of your brain through consistent practice.

If you catch yourself complaining or comparing or judging … practice gratitude.

Play it as a game with your family – we’ve been doing that, and it changes everything.

Practice gratitude until you become it.

Let me know how you go!

Til next week,

Go well.
