A place to stand tall

“Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm.”

I friggin love working with people.

Not to just create another cog in a machine that’s doing the same thing,

But to fundamentally create a solid, profound foundation for the best life possible –

A life that’s not only sustainable,

That’s not crashing from exhaustion to overwhelm via anxiety and frustration and dissatisfaction and coping and back again,

A life you’re not constantly looking to take a holiday from …

But a life you can truly be proud of and excited by.

It’s not so much what you do, but how you do it:

Letting go of fear,

Learning to tell new stories,

Choosing a different attitude,

Mindfully seeking your own definition of success,

Doing everything filled with presence …

In our consumer culture of appearance over substance, these are such undervalued skills.

Yet all our doings are nothing without the internal structure of being.

Skills they are –

A little practice in the right direction goes a long, long way.

I had an incredible guy here at the Lodge last week for a personal retreat.

Don’t think he’d mind me telling you this because he is a legend.

He reminds me of all that is Good about life …

And that to have something different, you have to do something different.

That is certainly uncomfortable.

But when everything you think you know gets shaken, even thrown up in the air,

Finding solid ground again –

Ground that cannot be taken away from you,

That is everything.

The Maori have a concept called tūrangawaewae.

It literally means “place to stand”.

And I’ll never do it justice because I’m just not from that culture.

But to give it a shot.

It means physical places, it means certain people, it means an inner state –

An inner connection to You, where you stand tall.

The true You, the place within that is certain and everlasting and the source of your power.

Not power over anyone else, but power over your own fears and doubts and frustrations and confusions –

The only power that matters.

You already have that within you. Find it. Stand tall and be the difference you want to see in the world.

Go well,

Arjuna
