No Time For Things That Have No Soul

“I do not have time for things that have no soul.”

— Charles Bukowski

Ahhh Charles … that guy just doesn’t compromise.

But maybe we shouldn’t either? Surely, a deep, alive connection with soul is the foundation for the best kind of life?

Yet we don’t think that way, do we?

Doing is considered better than being. We sacrifice soul for ticking things off our list, yet we wonder why we get so lost in the urgent small stuff and always seem to neglect the important…

We’re very large on busy yet short of fulfilment, meaning and purpose.

While we don’t consider soul very much in our culture, I bet you my son’s Lego that you know when you feel aligned and ‘right’ and when you don’t; I bet you have an absolute preference.

Just because we might be unused to looking at this part of us, doesn’t make it go away.

Prioritise soul, I say: especially when you live a busy and demanding life. Otherwise you quickly feel out of whack, and that flavours everything with dissatisfaction, even resentment – it’s a slippery slope to burnout.

Soul is an inner fire that lights, nourishes, energises everything you do. There’s nothing that won’t benefit from it.

You want more?

1). Certainly – prioritise an inner practice and those people and activities that feed you; but 2). recognise you can always choose to bring soul to everything you do.

Nothing needs to be empty. If it is and you can’t/don’t want to choose to make it otherwise, I say it’s a great sign to change it up and get out. Compromise as little as possible.

Make your soul important, and you’ll find satisfaction, meaning and purpose, real energy and love for life.

I practice Ascension because before I felt hollow and lost. Now I practice and I realise I was always whole; I just didn’t have the means to find the way back.

But, as the great Rumi said, “There are a thousand ways to kneel and kiss the ground; there are a thousand ways to go home again.”

Stoke that soul fire. Start (or continue) with what makes sense to you – just do it and it’ll pay you back handsomely.

Go well,

Arjuna
