It’s the most sophisticated way we have of missing our own lives.
We treat the present like a waiting room.
A stale, plastic-chaired transition we endure before the "real" event starts. The holiday. The new house. The moment the kids finally sleep – or the inbox is empty.
If you’re always leaning into the next thing, you’re never actually standing in this one.
You’re living in a state of constant departure. A habit of absence that sells you on the idea that "There" is better than "Here."
Maybe so, but that sucks the life out of today.
And there’s way more “Here’s” than there are “There’s”.
It’s a whopping great leak in the tank.
Try a different approach.
Pick the most mundane, "filler" task on your list. The commute. Unloading the dishwasher. The spreadsheet that makes your skull shrink.
Instead of trying to get through it, fully inhabit it.
Notice the weight of your feet. The specific rhythm of your breath. The awareness gazing out of your eyes.
When you stop treating now as a means to an end, the friction vanishes. The static clears. You stop waiting.
Right?
Everything takes time.
Patience embraces the way things are.
You’ll find aliveness isn't something you find at the mountain summit – it’s the fuel you bring to the kitchen sink.
It’ll save your bacon when you’re worried about the future, too.
Instead of trying to predict the storm, settle into the in-between. Let life unfold without losing yourself.
Everything is fresh when you stop trying to get past it.
Holding your breath, waiting for a result? What happens if you decide this specific step is the destination?
It’s always, always here ...
Go well!

PS.
Join me for the next Ishayas’ Ascension meditation course: 17–19 April (7pm start).
These are mechanical techniques – you can’t get them wrong – yet they pull you straight out of the waiting room.
You’ll trade the habit of absence for a life that actually feels like yours while you’re living it.
Details on the course as well as 1-1 spiritual mentoring are here: https://www.arjunaishaya.com/ishayasascension
