Creating sanctuary from the storm – for everyone

“When you practice well, you become a refuge for yourself but also for your loved ones.”

— Thich Nhat Hanh

__________

Your practice of mindfulness and meditation isn’t just for you.

It does create a refuge from all the things that cause chaos and suffering in life. The more you practice, the more you have a sanctuary from anxiety and anger and fear, doubt and resentment and sorrow …

You gain shelter from any and all the storms of life.

And let’s face it – these storms are an inevitable part of living. Hope as we might, life will not go the way we want it to. Maybe it will sometimes, definitely it won’t often.

Is this a bad thing?

No –

You’re being shown where you can find refuge, and this is a kindness.

Because you’re being shown what you can truly control.

Instead of raging against the weather, you’re being shown the place where you are high and dry.

And it’s a kindness for all because when you find shelter, you become shelter.

Your practice helps others. It speaks to them.

Like a lighthouse showing the way, you reveal to others what is within them – within every single human.

We are such great do-ers … yet what is crucial is how we do.

When you lose yourself in the world, you have nothing to offer but a presence that speaks pushing and stress, controlling and reaction.

When you gain calm, clear, presence filled enjoyment – these are the seeds you sow around you.

So don’t feel selfish in making your practice a priority.

Close your eyes. Gain sanctuary in that which truly protects and nourishes.

Open your eyes. Prioritise all that which is good within you, and that shall spread far and wide.

Enjoy!

Go well,

Arjuna
