The mistake of intentional creation in meditation

“Everything that happens, happens at the only possible time it can happen, and it is always at exactly the right time.

We cannot get to an appointment before we arrive—or after. It is only at the instant of our arrival that we can arrive, and that is always at exactly the right moment, the perfect moment, the only possible moment.”

The thing I appreciate about how I’ve been guided into Ascension meditation – and indeed, the way that the practice itself shows me how to practice it –

Is the need for, and the value of, absolute simplicity and effortlessness.

This is the advice I’d pass on to you – there is no need to try, strain and control. Whatsoever. Keep it supremely simple.

Meditation isn’t just about the mind.

It’s also about the body and the emotions and spirit – and they have their own wisdom. Effortlessness – a lack of control – on our part means this wisdom can play out.

While we may spend our waking lives believing that we know how best get what we need and want from life, as the saying goes, “We make plans so God can laugh at them”.

We think we know what is best, but so often even the most superior view is limited.

If I was in an arguing mood, I would posit that our only job in Ascension or any meditation practice is to get out of the way and allow all the different wisdoms contained in our Selves to fulfil what they need to fulfil.

You could, of course, set an intention for your session, but I’d be very careful. Base it around receiving exactly what you need from the session in the very highest and broadest sense.

Don’t set about creating specifics from a limited ego view.

You’re always bound to sell yourself short, at best, and for disappointment at worst. This may mean you quit what could be the most fruitful practice of your entire life. Which I think is a tragedy.

Let go. You don’t need a single thing.

This is one of THE lessons I’ve gotten from my practice. Anything I think I need is far smaller than anything the universe has in store for me – and for you.

It’s a practice of trust. That you can let go, and you will get the very best.

But actually get down and practice and you’ll come to the experience that all of life is happening not to you, but for you. In fact, let go and you’ll experience the beauty and power of life happening through you.

So if you want to create, create broadly. Be the vessel, but not the captain.

Visualisation?

Perfect, but get empty first. Just like a gardener tills the soil, do the same so any young seedlings aren’t choked by the weeds of your mind.

Got a question? Need a solution?

Sure – drop the question in before your session. But then let it be fulfilled in its own good time. Be unconditional, unattached.

This is the path to freedom, lasting happiness, peace and effectiveness. This is a path to true wisdom, to the very best for you and for all.

You get the point? Conditions, attachments, expectations … these are the things that mean you suffer needlessly.

So, choose differently.

Let go. Let it happen. This sphere is the one place where you can truly rest, relax, gain respite and true renewal.

And God knows we need that most of all, exhausted, worried and frustrated, overwhelmed and burned out and unbalanced we all are.

Wu Wei … doing without force, without effort. The art of sailing not rowing. Power but not force. Struggle gracefully – so gracefully, it’s not struggle at all. Love what is.

The Teachers of the world tell us this time and time again; and so am I.

Go well!

Let me know how you find this, alright? I really want to know.
