Don’t get stuck in a rut

“Don’t live the same year 75 times and call it a life.”

Six months ago I said, “Never again” but it seems I forgot.

Ultra #3 in a few days time.

Maybe running long distances is a bit like childbirth?

The tough moments fade back, while the good come forward? I don’t know for sure on that one, I’ve only spectated.

Whatever –

I’m really quite looking forward to the run.

It’s a challenge, it’s an adventure, there’s great company … and I just don’t want to be stuck in a rut.

Some time ago I realised I was talking about exploring the mountains more than I was actually doing it – and that had to change.

You see, a true practice of meditation doesn’t just create a sanctuary from the sharp bits of life.

It’ll (gently) shake your tree. It’ll show you where you are compromising, and ask you whether you want to keep on that same track.

Mindfulness and meditation give you more life in your moments.

A decent practice is an invitation to do the things that really float your boat.

To not stay the same; but to keep expanding your horizons.

Not to avoid, but to explore.

Serenity, acceptance and calm, yes. But also the choice, and courage, to engage what is meaningful …

To recognise the grey little voices of doubt and “I’m too busy”, and instead colour your dreams with reality.

Choose your own adventure. Don’t compare negatively to others’ missions:

What do you love? What makes you slightly nervous about doing? What makes you think you might not be up to it, but you keep wondering anyway?

It doesn’t have to be huge or terrifying – it’s relative. Even a ‘little’ makes a huge difference.

You don’t even need to leave town, just being a tourist in your own place will show you so much.

Set something up. Make it an attitude for every single day …

Explore.

Stop remembering being alive – immerse yourself in aliveness.

Go well!
