“The mountain does not move because the wind blows.”
— Zen proverb
______________
I like this quote.
I’m not for a second saying you should become rock-esque.
But a mountain doesn’t move because it is deeply rooted. Anchored to the earth.
You’ll need that anchor.
Hard things are a guarantee.
You’ll choose them — the new venture, the family, the mountain. We need something to rub against to grow.
Then, life will "life" you. The unwelcome and the unexpected are never a matter of if. Only when.
Most people spend their energy hoping the storm won’t come. The better question: How do I navigate the difficulty with style?
Grace under pressure is possible.
But it requires a different vision. We’ve bought into the idea that stress is the price you pay to make a difference.
What if it wasn’t?
What if it was actually a handbrake?
Pain is inevitable — suffering is optional.
If you’re going to do hard things, you must be ready for hard places. But burnout is not necessary. Neither is constant low-level anxiety or the grey static of over-thinking.
They are just signs of a high inner load. Too much friction. Poor inner “project management”. No deep connection, just lost in the past and the future.
Yet how are we to know any different? This is the way we’ve been shown since forever.
By embarking on this, it’s not just for you. You’re showing them something better –
That how you do it is just as important as what you do.
The invitation of difficult times is to transcend the suffering. To be effective, but with a smile on your face.
A calm, present inner playing field results in excellent external living. This is the 200% life.
But it doesn’t come without practicing the right things. We don’t rise to the occasion – we fall to the level of our training.
We’ll cover more of this over the next few weeks. Until then, start right there:
Refuse to pay the stress tax. You, and everyone, will be better for it.
Go well,
Arjuna
